Mental Health ProgramsAbout CMHSJeffrey A. Buck, Ph.D.
Jeffrey A. Buck, Ph.D., is the Associate Director for Organization and Financing in the federal Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS). Dr. Buck's office focuses on activities involving managed care and the financing and organization of mental health services. These activities include data collection and analysis, cost estimation, evaluation, policy assessment and technical assistance. Dr. Buck was a section editor of the recently released Surgeon General's Report on Mental Health. He also served on the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Working Group of the President's Task Force on the National Health Care Reform. Prior to joining CMHS, Dr. Buck worked as a research analyst in the Office of Research and Demonstration in the the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Dr. Buck has many articles and publications that address issues with federal mental health programs, mental health insurance coverage, and the financing of mental health services. Among the professional publications in which Dr. Buck's articles have appeared are Health Affairs; Health Care Financing Review; Psychiatric Services, and Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law. Dr. Buck holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Cornell University. He received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Kent State University in 1979. In 1982, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Public Policy and Applied Social Science Research at Carnegie-Mellon University. |
