About the Author

Laura L. Mancuso has a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Princeton University, and a Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling (with a specialization in psychiatric rehabilitation) from Boston University. Early in her career, she worked as a Software Support Representative for Hewlett Packard Company. Laura gained direct service experience in diverse mental health settings including a non-profit case management agency, a community mental health center, and a university-based research and training center. From 1989 to 1993, she managed technical assistance projects at the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors in Alexandria, Virginia.

In 1992, she was selected for a ten-person Consensus Panel by the U.S. Department of Education's National Institute on Disability & Rehabilitation Research to document state-of-the-art knowledge in Strategies to Secure and Maintain Employment for People with Long-Term Mental Illness. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and serves on the Board of Directors of the Association for Persons in Supported Employment.

Laura has become recognized as a specialist on the implications of the ADA for workers with psychiatric disabilities. Since the law's enactment, she has written extensively on this topic, and given dozens of presentations across the country to employer, consumer, and professional audiences. She lives in Goleta, California.
